When children begin to wet the bed again after experiencing at least 6 months of dry nights it is important that they get checked by a GP to rule out any underlying medical cause. It is very common for children to experience a return to bedwetting when they start school. This type of bedwetting is referred to as secondary enuresis and is typically associated with a build-up of stress in children’s lives. Often the additional pressures of school combined with overtiredness result in children wetting the bed. Starting school means becoming familiar with new routines, a new teacher and a whole new social set of peers – it is both exciting and overwhelming. Usually children’s bedwetting stops when they become more comfortable with the situation. If you think overtiredness is contributing to his bedwetting – sometimes shifting his bedtime forward just half an hour can make all the difference.
