I have heard about the use of hypnosis or some way of stimulating neural pathways - we have tried the bedwetting alarm, and are waiting to have a 2nd attempt - but I am wondering if there are any other things that you would recommend? In the meantime, we are back to drynites. My son is 7 years old.
Increasingly parents are turning to alternative treatments in an attempt to help their child stay dry at night – the success of these is really dependent on each individual child and how they are used. Many of these treatments or therapies are often used in conjunction with more conventional approaches such as a conditioning alarm. The most common alternative treatments for bedwetting are massage, acupuncture or chiropractic work and hypnosis. There are some herbal as well as homeopathic remedies that can be useful for children who experience bedwetting. From what I hear hypnosis as an alternative treatment for bedwetting has met with a certain level of success – this method is said to retrain the brain to wake up when the bladder is full so the child can get up and go to the toilet. This has been used quite often in combination with the alarm treatment and has proved very successful. Most of these approaches are considered experimental and should only be considered after discussion with your doctor or a continence advisor.
