Boys bedwetting (4-10 y) · Asked by karen over 2 years ago

Dr Cathrine Answered:

Hi Karen, it is not unusual for children to experience a return to bedwetting at times of stress – this is typically referred to as secondary nocturnal enuresis. While the cause of this form of bedwetting differs from primary bedwetting, the approach to treatment is very similar. The most successful form of treatment currently available is the conditioning alarm. Its success depends a great deal on its correct usage as well as how motivated children are to achieve continence. Before beginning any form of treatment it is essential that you consult with your doctor, just to rule out any possible underlying medical cause. You should use this opportunity to be referred to a professional who has experience in treating children’ bedwetting and who can help with introducing the alarm. All the best!

Dr Cathrine
