Toilet Trained boy needs some night time help

I have a 4.5 year old boy who still wears pull-ups to bed but is toilet trained during the day (very good). We have not tried to "train" him at night time yet but every time the pull-up is not sitting properly or he forgets to put one on we have an accident. How do we start to train him for nights as well??

Unfortunately – unlike toilet training, nighttime continence is not something that can be taught. It is important to keep in mind that bedwetting is not something your son has any control over. Given time he will learn to respond to the sensation of a full-bladder at night and wake on his own or his bladder capacity will increase to a point where he can sleep through until morning. The majority of 4-year-olds will outgrow bedwetting on their own without the need for treatment. Keep in mind the speed at which children achieve nighttime continence can vary considerably from one child to the next – it is important to stay positive and provide lots of encouragement remembering that even when he does start experiencing some dry nights accidents may still happen from time to time. In the meantime you can make sure he has easy access to the toilet at night, that he is drinking 6-8 glasses during the day, has a healthy diet and does not consume products high in caffeine which can cause the kidneys to produce larger amounts of urine.
