5 out of 7 nights my boys have accidents. Help!

hi thanks for your time. I have 5 children two of my sons aged 7 and 5 wet their beds every night. i have been using dry nites since they both turned two and find that 5 out of 7 nights i have to change their beds even when they wear dry nites. it is very expensive to buy them and still i am laundering their linen, blankets, doonas nearly every day, please
give me some advice. I have them both in the size 8-15 years but they leak all the time.

Dr Cathrine Answered:

if you are concerned that the bedwetting has been going on too long or there seems to be significant amounts of urine produced overnight then you need to make sure it isn’t a medical issue. If you have not already done so schedule an appointment with your GP to make sure there isn’t a physically cause to their bedwetting. It must be incredibly frustrating and tiring for you having to launder two sets of sheets on a regular basis. As bedwetting tends to run in families this can be a common occurrence for many mothers. You might want to make sure that the DryNites are fitting properly as if they are too big this may cause some leakage. I would also check that neither of your sons are consuming large amounts of liquid before bedtime – often children do not drink much during the day when they are at school and tend to compensate for this when they get home. It’s fine for them to drink lots of water and unsweetened juices during the day although you might want to try gradually cutting back toward bedtime. Make sure they both fully empty their bladder before going to bed and that they avoid food and drinks high in caffeine as this causes the kidneys to produce more urine overnight. I hope this helps!
