My son wets the bet everynight.I have tried for 2 weeks to go without a nappy on but then there is the wet bed,he wakes me up and i change the bed,2 hours later wet again,i can't keep up with the sheets plus i am a working mum and the lack of sleep for me amd for him just was not working for us.I was thinking i may need to see a doctor? Any Ideas?
While it is perfectly normal for your son to be still wetting the bed at age 4 – the decision of whether or not to see a doctor is ultimately up to you and your son. If his bedwetting is causing you undue stress then this is as good a reason as any to speak with a professional even if it to just rule out an underlying medical cause. I will warn you that most professionals refuse to treat children under the age of 6 years as there is a high spontaneous cure rate before then – that is children just stop bedwetting on their own! As a working mum with three children of my own I know how precious sleep can be and the thought of additional loads of laundry is overwhelming!! What we need to think about is how to best manage his bedwetting until he stops. I typically recommend to parents that they use DryNites at night – they do not prolong the bedwetting process and will definitely reduce the frustration that results from waking up to wet sheets every morning. These are designed for older children as opposed to nappies which are typically viewed by kids as something only babies wear – posing a threat to their self-esteem. Good luck!
