Hi Lyndamarie, this is certainly a challenging and complex situation. In these situations I generally recommend that you adhere to your doctors suggestion, as they are most familiar with your son’s medical history. In saying this it is typically recommended that daytime continence issues be dealt with before embarking on a nighttime conditioning program. Given your son has never been dry at night it is unlikely (although not impossible) that his nighttime wetting is in response to stress. The most important thing is to ensure your son feels supported throughout this process. At no point should he be made to feel that this is somehow his fault. If you are at all concerned about the treatment or advise you receive, you are entitled to seek a second opinion. It is best to meet with a pediatrician who specializes in children’s incontinence.
Regards,
Dr Cathrine
