My son is almost 4 years old and has been toilet trained during the day for quite some time now. The night time is a different story and he is happy to wet the bed. We have resorted to putting a nappy on him at night but know that this is only going backwards. What do you suggest. I have thought of using pull-ups again or maybe drynites.
It is not unusual for parents to feel a little frustrated when their child is quick to toilet train yet continues to wet at night. Unfortunately while children can be taught to control their bladder during the day, nighttime continence is a completely different story. The first and most important thing to understand about bedwetting is that it is not your child’s fault – this is something they have very little control over. It is also worth keeping in mind that your son is still very young and his behaviour is typical of most 3-year-old boys – in fact it would be unusual for him NOT to be wetting at night. I would definitely recommend using DryNites over a nappy as these are designed for older boys (and do not in any way represent a backwards step) and will encourage independent behaviour as he will be able to pull them on and off by himself. You can encourage this further by getting him to put them in the bin in the mornings. I would avoid Pull-Ups as these are more suitable for daytime use as they are less absorbent and prone to leakage if children have large urine output overnight.
