He is a heavy sleeper and is impossible to wake in the night. His father and 1 uncle wet to age 7 and another uncle to age 11. He was dry at night age 2 (self trained) but started wetting again a couple of months later when the nights became cold (bed got warm and cosy I think he slept heavier).
In order for your son to become dry at night he either needs to learn to wake in response to a full-bladder or his bladder needs to develop to a point where it can store the amount of urine his body produces until morning. While age is certainly one factor in deciding when to introduce treatment, the child’s motivation to become dry is another. Bedwetting has a strong genetic component so it is not at all surprising that other family members also wet the bed at night. When genetics comes into play we often find children stop wetting around a similar age to their relative. In saying this it is always wise to have children checked by their GP just to rule out any possible underlying medical condition. All the best!
