my son is only going to be turning 3 in April, but i am concerned cause he has been in undies for about 6 months at night and i have had no problems until recently he is wetting the bed about every 2nd night, he does like to drink water before he goes to

when he wets the bed he doesn't wake up at all, i just find him all wet between about 3 and 5 in the morning

Boys bedwetting (4-10 y) · Asked by H. M. about 1 year ago

Dr Cathrine Answered:

Dear H.M., It is not unusual for children to waiver between periods of dryness and return to wetting as they move toward achieving permanent nighttime continence. Given he was dry for up to 6 months it would be worth having him checked by your doctor just to make sure there is no underlying medical cause. Bedwetting can occasionally be an indicator of health-related issues such as tapeworms (a simple worm treatment can rectify this) or a urinary tract infection. Young children may wet the bed if they become particularly over-tired, shifting his bedtime forward even ½ hour may make a big difference. It is perfectly fine for him to drink water in the evening just make sure he also drinks regularly throughout the day as some children have a tendency to consume most of their fluids in the afternoon/evening placing additional pressure on their bladder at night.

Regards,
Dr Cathrine
