My 4 year old is wearing drynights but it leaks most nights. We stopped giving him too much to drink after 5pm (his bedtime is 7pm) and we get him to go to the toilet just before bedtime. Should we move to a bigger Drynights to stop the leaking?

My son is the size of a 5 year old.
We always ensure that he drinks minimal water from 5pm (bedtime is 7pm)
We make sure he has a wee before bed time.

Hi Sarah, in terms of management it sounds like you are doing everything right! The amount of urine children produce overnight is quite variable. Some children wet at night because they have a small bladder capacity. These children will also go to the toilet more frequently throughout the day. Leakage can also result from improper fit, which can occur if your son’s DryNites are either too small or too large. Check that they are fitting him properly around the leg. While it doesn’t sound like he is ready for the larger size you could certainly request a sample off the website to try. You can try and reduce his urine output by limiting drinks high in sugar as well as the amount of dairy or citrus he drinks in the evening as these are known to stimulate the kidneys. If you were at all concerned about the amount of urine he is producing I would certainly recommend you consult with your GP.

Dr Cathrine
