Dylan, my boy
Dylan started wetting his bed about three months ago. He turned 5 years in May 2008.
Dylan's father no longer lives with us so he has felt the absence of his dad and I think this may have been the trigger to his recent bed-wetting. I am saddened by his reaction and have felt a lot of concern for him but with our situation being as it is, Dylan must learn to cope. Friendly advice from his day-care workers have suggested that this stage in his life will pass. I hope so.
As a strategy towards his assistance I have decided to introduce him to DryNites. The objective is to minimise the bed-wetting by shifting the emphasis to achieving dry-nights as a regular occurrence. He is doing well. As a team we understand the occasional accident but we celebrate the dry nights together. His comments are now "Mummy, I had a little accident." My reply would be, "That's ok honey, lots of other people have accidents sometimes. Things will get better."
I think stress in children triggers lots of accidents of all types. As parents we need to understand this and look outside our own concerns and focus on this little person who also has to cope with major changes in their little lives. Dylan is a wonderful boy. I am so proud of him. Good luck with your little ones.
