Is it time to seek a medical opinion?

My daughter is nine and a half and was toilet trained both day and night at an average age but within a year started wetting at night and hasn't stopped since. Should I continue with Dry Nites and hope she will out grow it? or seek a medical opinion now?

Hi Kimberley, while some children do outgrow bedwetting on their own others children benefit from a little bit of assistance. Given her age and the frequency of her wetting I would certainly recommend that you have her examined by a doctor. Bedwetting alarms currently experience the best outcomes with approximately 75% of children experiencing dryness after their use. It is important however that you rule out any possible underlying medical cause first before embarking on a conditioning program. The more support you receive with treatment the greater the chance of a successful outcome, so if your GP is not experienced in treating children’s nighttime wetting ask to be referred to a continence medical professional who can provide you with the assistance you require. All the best!

Dr Cathrine
