My nearly 6 year old still wets the bed every night she tries to trick me sometimes that I've already put a nappy on because she hates wearing them. She also wets her pants during the day probably 4 days out of seven because when she needs to go she cant hold on very long sometimes lucky to get to 5min tops what can i do she's so embarrassed about it.
When children experience daytime incontinence after 4 years of age you need to consult with a GP to check if there is an underlying medical condition – often there isn’t but it is important to rule this out first. You could talk to her about how she feels when she needs to go to the toilet – helping her to identify those early cues so that she doesn’t leave it until the last minute to go. To avoid embarrassment I would suggest using DryNites at night instead of nappies –children typically see nappies as something only babies wear. You can explain to her that DryNites are designed for older girls like her and are even worn by teenagers. We cannot underestimate the embarrassment and distress wet pants can cause so it is important that you provide lots encouragement. Reassure her that this is something she will outgrow but until then she has your full support.
