My 4 yr old daughter has been dry for months (with the occassional wet night) is now wetting the bed every night that I resort to putting her back into nappies
As children move toward achieving permanent nighttime continence it is not unusual for them to oscillate between periods of dryness then return to wetting the bed. If you are at all concerned about the amount of urine she is producing overnight then I would recommend that you arrange an appointment with your GP just to rule out any underlying medical cause. In the meantime you can try and reduce the amount she wets by ensuring she fully empties her bladder just before she goes to bed, reduce the amount of fluid she drinks just before bedtime (while ensuring she does not go to bed thirsty), you should also avoid any foods or drink that contain higher amounts of caffeine – this includes chocolate, citrus can also contribute to bedwetting so you may want to avoid this, particularly in the evenings. Make sure she does not become overtired (which can be a challenge around Christmas time!) as this will only make it harder for her to wake in response to a full bladder. All the best!

Dr Cathrine
