My 6yo son drinks a lot of water because of his medication. Can I put an extra pad inside the pyjama pants to help hold the additional wetness?

I have a 6 yr old son who still requires your drynites pyjamas pants. Our problem is he is wetting through the pants most nights resulting in a linen change during the night. He was born with a congenital heart condition and the medication that he takes makes him thirsty so he drinks approx 200ml of water throughout the night. If we were able to stop his fluid intake I think our problem would be resolved however he does require the water and drinks on average 1500ml/day. I am wondering if you make another product with a higher absorbency that could help with this matter or if it would be feasible to insert a bladder weakness pad inside the pyjama pants to help hold the additional wetness. This would mean he is not waking each night wet. Any assistance would be really appreciated.

I think the main issue here is how best to manage his bedwetting so that he is able to get a good night sleep and not be disturbed by waking up wet every night. I agree it is important that you do not restrict his fluid intake; any attempt to do so may result in him suffering from constipation, which is likely to make his bedwetting worse. While you could certainly insert an additional pad into his DryNites I would recommend that you first contact the National Continence Helpline (1800 33 00 66) who may be able to recommend a product that is more suitable to your sons needs. If he continues to experience overflow it may be worth thinking about setting an alarm (in your room not his) so that you can replace his DryNites through the night, if he is a particularly deep sleeper you may be able to achieve this without needing to wake him. While this is not ideal, it would certainly be less disruptive than having to change his bed linen and may only result in disturbed sleep for you or your husband, not your son. It may also be worth discussing this with your son’s specialist to see how other parents whose children are on the same medication have managed the situation.
