Im 22 and occasionally still wet the bed. i have basically had it under control since i was 17 but sometimes i can wet the bed a few times in a week and then be ok for a while but seems to crop up every now and again. i have a partner for the first yr i managed to stay dry when i slept next to him but for the last yr i have wet the bed on more than 10 occasions. ive previously tried drugs, is there any long term cure such as surgery?
This must very challenging for you. It is not unusual for people who wet the bed for extended periods to experience a return to bedwetting at times of stress or when you become overtired. During these times you could try and avoid wet sheets by wearing some form of adult absorbent pant. When it comes to treating bedwetting what works for one person does not always work for another. Surgical solutions are only appropriate for individuals who wet as a result of some underlying physical abnormality. Medications are generally seen as a way to help manage your bedwetting rather than as a cure as the majority of individuals relapse when they stop taking the medication. If you’re looking for a permanent solution to your bedwetting, then this is probably not the way to go. In saying this, sometimes using medication in conjunction with a bedwetting alarm helps do the trick. Have you tried a conditioning alarm? If not, I would certainly recommend giving this a go. Of all the treatments available this experiences the best outcomes. If you are a particularly deep sleeper you may need help initially to wake in response to the alarm. The success of the alarm really depends on the support you receive from your partner, so you should not try to do this alone. This form of treatment requires lots of patience as it can take up to 3 months to achieve continence, and even then you may experience some relapses, if this occurs simply re-introduce the alarm and continue as you did before. Good luck!
