I am 16 and I wet the bed every night. It sux. I hav type 1 diabetes but my GP says it shouldn't have anything to do with it. can you suggest any options to help manage my bed wetting any ideas would be greatly appreciated
This must be really frustrating for you. If your diabetes is being effectively managed it should not be the cause of your bedwetting. There are a number of standard treatments for bedwetting currently available these include conditioning therapy (alarms), drug therapy, psychotherapy, and diet control (you can read some more about these on the DryNites website). To date, the alarm methods have proven the most successful of all interventions with success rates ranging between 70% and 90%. There are a number of alternative treatments also experiencing some success – I know of a number of instances where individuals have attained dryness after combining the alarm treatment with hypnosis or chiropractic manipulation. A successful outcome largely depends on the level of support and guidance you receive so I would strongly recommend speaking with a continence specialist who can examine more closely your personal needs. In the meantime make sure you are drinking plenty of water at regular intervals throughout the day – it is important to avoid any drinks or food that are high in caffeine as this will only stimulate your kidneys to produce larger quantities of urine. Most importantly – stay positive – even though it may not seem like it at the moment this is something that will come to an end.
