My son is 12 and has been wetting the bed for 4 years and currently wets dry night pants. I have tried every possible solution with no success. My uncle still wets the bed and hes 61. Im scared this will happen with my son. Any help you can give me would be very much appreciated.
many parents feel overwhelmed and helpless when dealing with their child’s bedwetting and in your case this is only exacerbated by the fact that your uncle still wets the bed. Let me reassure you this is unusual with only about 1% of individuals continuing to wet the bed beyond adolescence. There are better treatments available now than when your uncle was young so I am sure with a little bit of help and a lot of commitment your son will soon be waking-up dry. In terms of treatments, bedwetting alarms currently have the highest success rates – with a successful outcome depending largely on the level of support and training provided so it is important that you consult with an experienced professional first. Successful outcomes are also more likely with children who experience a lower frequency of wetting so your son is a perfect candidate. Relapses can occur so even though he may wet the bed again this does not necessarily mean the treatment has failed – reintroduce the alarm and perhaps combine with a controlled diet and a healthy intake of fluids throughout the day. As children get older we need to be mindful of their self-esteem and self-confidence. You can help foster a positive sense of self by reassuring him that this is not his fault. By adopting a positive perspective (no matter how hard this may seem), your son will adopt a similar attitude and feel much better about himself and his bedwetting.
