Will Drynites work for discreet daytime wear?

My daughter (17) is in the midst of recovering from a UTI, with some added complications. As a result, she appears to have lost most of her bladder control - Her school, whilst understanding, is getting fed up with her rushing out of lessons or wetting herself without very much warning.

As a result of this, they have threatened to suspend her from school until the infection clears up. As I've been reading up on it, this could last anywhere up to 6 months? I'm seeking reassurance that she will be able to wear Drynites to school without detection, as I feel she's depressed enough with the whole situation without the rest of the school finding out she is wearing what is basically a nappy.

Best Regards

Robert

Hi Robert, while DryNites can certainly be used for the management of daytime continence I would recommend that you have a few trial runs at home first. The first thing to think about is whether your daughter wears pants or a tunic, as they would certainly be less noticeable in the later. She can help conceal them by wearing tight gym or dance pants over the top of the DryNites. If she has a pocket in her tunic she could put a few plastic wrapped lollies inside so if she is questioned about any ‘swishy’ sound she can blame it on the lollies in her pocket. She needs to make sure she changes them regularly to avoid leakage or odour. Any kind of sleepovers may be best held at your house in the short-term as she is sure to feel more confident in her home environment. Provide her with lots of love and encouragement during this time, as we do not want this to impact negatively on her self-esteem or self-confidence.

Dr Cathrine
