Oh No! It happened to me

I frequently wet day and night and my mommy bought me some nappies. When I went to school, I was playing on the monkey bars and some of the other girls saw that I was wearing a huggies dry night. They teased me alot and they wont stop. What should I do abouut the teasing, How do I stop wetting and are there any larger nappies that you would recommend which hold alot more than the hugggies do. Thanx. I need your help.

Hi Elise, depending on your size and weight, I would recommend you wear DryNites rather than nappies; these are much more suitable for older children and teenagers. It is important that you change these regularly, generally after urination to avoid leakage or odour. You can also wear underpants or sport-shorts over the top of these so they are not detectable by your peers. There are a number of possible medical causes to daytime wetting in teenagers so it is important that you speak with a doctor about this. In the meantime you can try and control your wetting by drinking water regularly throughout the day, avoid fizzy drinks, as these will make you want to go to the toilet more frequently. Some children find it helpful to wear a watch with an alarm that reminds you to go to the toilet at regular intervals. Make sure that each time you visit the toilet that you empty your bladder fully and never leave it until the last minute to go! Unfortunately you are not alone when it comes to coping with teasing. Children get teased for all sorts of reasons, for having big ears, wearing the wrong coloured shirt, being too skinny or too fat – whatever the reason it has nothing to do with you and everything to do with the kids who are making fun of you. Unfortunately some kids tease because they think it is a cool thing to do, because they want to get others attention or because they feel superior when they put others down. It is important that you do not try and handle this all by yourself, talk about this with your mum or dad or a teacher and discuss ways to handle the teasing. Practice ignoring the girls who are teasing you, and know whatever they have to say is not true. Stick with your friends as much as possible as they can help you deal with the teasing. Sometimes humour can be quite effective, laughing along with the kids that are teasing you shows them that their teasing doesn’t bother you at all, so they are more likely to stop.
