Hi Jade – while deep sleeping certainly plays a role in bedwetting it is not the primary cause of why it happens in the first place, so it is unlikely that you will start wetting the bed just because you sleep very heavily at night. Clearly your bladder has developed to a point where it can store the amount of urine your kidneys produce overnight – even if it does feel very full when you wake in the morning. It is certainly true that bedwetting can run in families. Genetic links however relate to primary bedwetting, which describes the condition where children have wet the bed from infancy. So there is really no need to worry. While girls can continue to use DryNites when they have a period, this is not a product that I would recommend for management of menstrual flow alone. DryNites are designed to help children and teenagers manage their bedwetting. The best way to manage your period at night is to use sanitary pads. If you are confused about what to do, you should discuss this with your parents or a trusted adult.
Regards,
Dr Cathrine
