Could bedwetting be hereditary?

My name is Mel. I am now a 30yr old mother of one, but from as young as I can remember till I was around 13, I wet the bed. I was so ashamed and never slept at friends' houses as I didn't want them to know.

Despite what all the experts think, I believe bed wetting is hereditary! I am the first of four siblings and three of us wet the bed till we were teens. Our mother was the same. She was a bed wetter till she was 14. I only learned of this when I was eighteen as I was adopted out when I was a newborn and knew nothing of my biological family and our bed wetting habits till 18. My adoptive mother was the same as all the so called experts believed it was laziness, as I would go into to deeper sleep and didn't wake when I felt the need to go. And I also used to drink too much before bed.

My adoptive mother also had me at childcare counsellors who asked me disturbing questions for a child of that age. Questions like, "Is your father molesting you? O has any one else touched you?" For a child who doesn't have those things happening to them, I believe they don't need to hear that.

I now have a three year old daughter who wets the bed every night, and if I don't change her nappy/DryNites one or two times through the night, the bed will be wet in the morning. So I am a strong believer that hereditary bed wetting should be looked into more closely. Although I understand there are other things that can trigger it, I also think if its in the family there is a chance it will pop up again.
