Your bedwetting stories: boys
Sam’s mum
Mother of 2 kids, I have brought them up exactly the same way, even potty trained them at the same age in their lives. The first was dry day and night by the time they were 3 and my second, well, I hope he’ll be dry at night by the time he turns 21. I know this is a wild exaggeration but it just feels as if it will never end. Sam is now 9 and has probably only had a handful of dry nights in his life. There just doesn’t seem anything that I do makes’ a difference. We’ve tried everything except medication. My doctor just keeps telling me that Sam is a deep sleeper and will eventually grow out of this. I fluctuate between agreeing with her and wanting to take the next step and get the medicos involved. Time will only tell but in the mean time we’ll keep on going with our routine.
The routine works pretty well, I don’t think even his older brother knows that he wears DryNites to bed every night which is pretty amazing as they are very close. Even when he goes for a sleep over he manages to get away with it. He has a small cloth swim bag that he keeps in the bottom of the sleeping bag and manages to get the pants on and off in the sleeping bag and stashed away.
He would be devastated if anyone found out.
I find it incredibly frustrating for him more than me. Now that he wears the pants to bed I’m a lot more relaxed, even though I’m still stressed about him wetting, but I don’t have that sinking feeling that I used to get every morning when I would have to strip the bed AGAIN.
As the saying goes, “It won’t happen over night but it will happen” – I’m using that saying for losing my spare tyre as well (I wonder which one of us will reach our goal first – I hope it’s Sam).
