Bedwetting is not your fault

When ever you’re feeling a bit down about wetting the bed at night, say this to yourself;

“It’s not my fault, it’s not my fault.”

It really isn’t. There isn’t a child anywhere that says “I like wetting the bed and I do it on purpose”. In fact it’s the complete opposite. If you could stop you would, so don’t be hard on yourself.

Here’s why it’s not your fault:

  • Your brain and body are not communicating properly.
  • It happens in your sleep and you are not awake to control it.
  • Your mum or Dad may also have wet the bed and this means that you are more likely to wet the bed.

What you can do:

  • Try not to get upset about it.
  • Focus on other areas of your life and not on your bedwetting.
  • Leave bedwetting in your bedroom and don’t worry about it during the day.
  • Drink 6-8 glasses of water each day and maintain a healthy diet.
  • Try not to go to the toilet just in case and make sure that you wait until you need to go. Then make sure that you empty your bladder down to the very last drop.
  • Talk to someone if you think this is starting to worry you too much or it’s affecting other parts of your life.
  • Picture yourself in your classroom or playground and look around. Reassure yourself that there are other kids in the same boat as you. You just don’t know their secret either.
  • Stay positive – it will end!
