Is it normal for my 12year old son to want to were dry night nappy

It is unclear from your question whether or not your son wets the bed at night. If he experiences nighttime incontinence then the answer to your question is 'yes', it is perfectly normal. It is helpful to think of DryNites as a form of bedwetting management in that they are specifically designed to provide children with self-confidence during a challenging time while reducing the stress and anxiety associated with wet sheets. If he does not wet the bed then a desire to return to nappies may be a sign of stress or trauma and should be followed up with your GP and a child psychologist. It is not unusual for children to exhibit signs of regression at times of stress - when this is the case it is the cause rather than the behaviour that becomes our treatment focus.
