Boy
8-15 years

Hi, my 9 year old son has never been dry overnight. He is an otherwise healthy boy who suffers with slight anxiety at times. What are some things I can do to help him stop wetting the bed. It stops him enjoying sleep overs etc and is due for camp next year at school. I have tried a few different things but nothing seems to make a difference.

As parents it is really important to try and not let our child's bedwetting impact negatively on their ability to engage in social activities. Understandably one of the most common concerns for older children who wet the bed is attending social events like sleepovers or school-camps. Their biggest fear typically revolves around being discovered by their peers. The good news is that many of these children are able to attend sleepovers while wearing DryNites and noone is ever the wiser. It’s often helpful to talk to the parents where your son is staying before he goes and prearrange a place where he can discretely change his clothes and dispose of his DryNites. Sometimes it’s a good idea to have a practice run at home so that he feels more confident when he is with her friends. You could also consider using a medication designed to reduce urine production. Medications should only be used in the short-term but can be an effective way to manage bedwetting for things like sleepovers and for school camp. You should discuss this with your doctor. All the best! Kind Regards, Dr Cathrine
