My step daughter is still bed wetting. She is currently using training pants. When she was living with her mother she experienced some traumatic events which has created fear in her. How can I help with the bed wetting?

Sometimes children’s bedwetting can be the result of significant trauma or psychological stress. When this is the case, the first response is to help children manage and work through whatever is causing this stress. In some instances as you describe here, you really need to seek support from a clinical psychologist who specializes in treating childhood traumas. You will need a referral from your GP. You can also contact the Australian Psychological Society who will be able to provide you with a list of suitable clinicians in your area (http://www.psychology.org.au/ or 1800 333 497). In the meantime it is important to provide your step daughter with lots of love and support and minimise any negative feelings she may have about her bedwetting. Kind Regards, Dr Cathrine
